Why this happens

Both medications are 'central nervous system depressants'. They work in a similar way to slow down brain activity. When used together, their effects are added together (an additive effect), which can over-sedate the body.

You should not take these two medications together unless specifically instructed and closely monitored by your doctor. If you feel unusually sleepy, have shallow breathing, or feel very dizzy, seek medical help immediately. Do not drive or operate machinery if taking these medicines.
