Amitriptyline may reduce the effectiveness of Serc (betahistine). This means your treatment for vertigo or Meniere's disease might not work as well as it should.

Why this happens
Serc works by mimicking a natural chemical called histamine to improve blood flow in the ear. Amitriptyline is an antihistamine (among other things), which means it blocks the very receptors that Serc needs to trigger to be effective. They essentially 'cancel' each other out.
What you should do
Back to contentsSpeak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking these together. They may suggest an alternative treatment for your vertigo or adjust your doses. If you are already taking both, monitor whether your vertigo symptoms are getting worse.
