Can I take Amlodipine and Pregabalin together?

Taking amlodipine and pregabalin together may increase the risk of side effects such as dizziness, sleepiness, and swelling in the ankles or feet (oedema). Both drugs can cause these effects individually, so taking them at the same time can make them more noticeable.

Why this happens

This is a 'pharmacodynamic' interaction. Amlodipine works by relaxing blood vessels, which can sometimes cause fluid to leak into the tissues (swelling). Pregabalin can also cause fluid retention and affects the central nervous system, leading to drowsiness. When combined, these effects can add together.

It is generally safe to take these together, but you should be aware of increased tiredness or dizziness, especially when you first start the combination or change your dose. Be careful when driving or using machinery until you know how the drugs affect you. If you notice significant swelling in your legs or rapid weight gain, contact your GP.
