Both ashwagandha and ginger can lower blood sugar levels and slow down blood clotting. Taking them together might increase the risk of your blood sugar dropping too low (hypoglycaemia) or increase the chance of bruising and bleeding.

Why this happens
Ashwagandha and ginger have similar (additive) effects on the body. Both herbs can improve insulin sensitivity, which lowers blood sugar. Additionally, both possess mild antiplatelet properties, meaning they make the blood less 'sticky' and slower to clot.
What you should do
Back to contentsThis combination is usually fine for most healthy people, but you should use caution if you take medications for diabetes or blood-thinning drugs (like warfarin or aspirin). Monitor your blood sugar levels closely if you are diabetic.
