Why this happens

Vitamin D3 and Zinc do not compete for absorption in the gut, nor do they interfere with how the body processes or removes each other. Some studies suggest that Zinc may actually help Vitamin D work more effectively by supporting the receptors that Vitamin D binds to in your cells.

It is safe to take these two supplements together. You can take them at the same time of day, with or without food, though taking them with a meal may help prevent any stomach upset from the Zinc and improve the absorption of Vitamin D (which is fat-soluble). Always stick to the recommended daily doses on the packaging unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
